Until recently, this group existed without meeting up on a regular basis. Rather it was people using their creative skills in their own time and in their own homes, then later having these contributions submitted to, or combined into finished products, to contribute to the charitable 'Linus UK' quilts project.
This continues, and you can read more information about the aims and approach of the Linus organisation below. However from Autumn 2025 we will also add in a new opportunity too, for our members to regularly meet up, to chat as they work, and to help each other if any guidance is needed.
This will be a monthly meeting, on first Monday of Month, starting at 1 pm in the Royal Oak pub on Standishgate. Bring your knitting or crochet work, or any other needlecraft pieces. It doesn't have to be part of the quilts preparation, perhaps just your own pieces of work. Everyone welcome.

Project Linus UK is a 100% volunteer non-profit Community Interest Company, with a mission to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children, who are sick, disabled, disadvantaged or distressed by donating gifts of NEW, HOMEMADE, WASHABLE quilts and blankets, lovingly made by UK volunteer knitters and quilters.
The Linus project is a charity separate from the u3a, originally from America set up in the UK in 2000, and representatives from that organisation came to speak to us in March 2025 to kick things off. A number of our members have already been busy in producing quilts like those illustrated here.
Our members are welcome to continue working at home as previously, or to bring work in to the meetings to enjoy a bit of company at the same time, or just come along to learn more about what kind of contributions are invited. Other non-u3a Linus Project workshops are also held in the Wigan area, and we can share information on these too.
If you think this is for you, using any of these ways or working, then please do send an enquiry via the group link above to find out more.
