Pat Davies has started an Irish Dancing (Ceili) Group led by an Instructor Garry from the Brian Boru club in Ashton.

The dancing group is suitable for beginners and a trained instructor will guide people through the dances with step by step instruction.

Ceili Dancing is a fun and friendly activity that will also help boost fitness.

Ceili or Ceilidh?

Cèilidh (pronounced Kay-lee) Scottish Gaelic or Céilí (Irish) is a traditional Scottish and Irish social gathering. In its most basic form, it simply means a social visit but is now more associated with a dance to Irish or Scottish folk music. The dancing is similar to a barn dance and is not the Michael Flatley Riverdance style!

The group meets at Hallgate House (by Wigan Bus Station) on the third Monday of the month.

Feedback from the initial session in May was very positive.

Cost of the session is £5/person. Tea/coffee will be available at an additional cost. Please also bring water to keep hydrated during the dancing sessions.
