The Philosophy group will continue to meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 2:30pm, however from October 2026 the venue will be moving to the Brocket Hotel on Mesnes Road, Wigan (WN1 2DD), getting together in one of their smaller conference rooms.
The change in venue arises from a temporary closure of the BookCycle hub pending emergency repairs. The Brocket does have a car park, hidden away down a small entry between the hotel and the Asda store next door, and free parking is available - however please note that this is conditional on purchase of drinks/coffees/snacks, and on entering your registration number on the screen by the tills in the main bar area.

Come along and join us as we discuss a wide range of issues covering many subject areas. A specific topic will be chosen in advance for each session, relating to general questions about reality, truth, morality, justice, governance, knowledge, language and religious belief.
You do not need to have read academic books on the subject – all you need is an open mind, a curiosity about human nature and the world we inhabit and an interest in understanding them better. The aim is to learn how to think more clearly and how to live better, taking cues from current and previous generations of thinkers who have written on these subjects.
When approached in the right way, philosophy is not only an engaging and rewarding discipline but in this ‘post-truth’ world driven by social media and artificial intelligence, an increasingly relevant and necessary one.
