Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese tradition often described as "meditation in motion," featuring slow, gentle, and flowing movements combined with deep breathing and mindfulness. It functions as a low-impact, accessible exercise that improves balance, increases strength, reduces stress, and enhances flexibility for all fitness levels.
Next meeting date is Thursday 7th May
Benefits offered by Tai Chi include:
- Mind-Body Connection: It integrates physical postures with mental focus to calm the mind and body.
- Core Principles: The practice emphasizes relaxation, controlled breathing, and fluid weight shifting to foster mental calmness and physical poise.
- Health Benefits: Research indicates Tai Chi can reduce falls in older adults, improve mobility, ease chronic pain (such as arthritis), and improve cognitive function.
- "Tai Chi Walking": A core technique, it involves slow, intentional, and "catlike" steps to enhance balance and proprioception.
- Accessibility: It is low-impact and safe, requiring no special equipment and often taught as a group exercise.
There will be two separate groups successively on meeting dates, The first group will run from 10:15 am (as venue only opens for access from 10am) to 11:15, The second group will run from 11:30 to 12:30. Please attend the group to which you have been assigned, or contact the group leader if you wish to request a change to this. The bar area below is available for a coffee or snack after these meetings,
We got really great feedback from the initial meetings on 9th of April on the benefits felt from this, and on how friendly and approachable our leader was. Payment in advance please - please contact leader for information on payment options and group allocations.
