Cotton Works

Cotton Works is a new development close to Wigan Pier. Many of our members will remember it as Eckersley Mill and its adjacent Industrial Site but slowly it is being turned into an out of centre leisure, work and living hub. (Future plans shown here). So far however it's just one Mill that has been restored, and even this is still being further refurbished ready for use as offices etc..

Since Summer 2025 however the Three Mills bar and Café has been opened for business, - open from 9am through till late. A variety of seating from large tables that groups can gather round, to comfy armchairs for a more general informal chat; a large outdoor terrace for sunnier days, coffee and snacks available throughout the day. Free parking, although do be warned that with all the other refurbishments going on in the building you might find this already full of builders vans if you visit in the day!! There's also street food and entertainment provided out front on Friday Feast Nights. Eventually there will be large glass-walled restaurant and bar area at roof level; it's already constructed but not yet fitted out. So lots going on for hospitality generally

Additionally the Wigan u3a has become one of the earliest users of the new Padel Tennis facility which has been tucked away round the back of the Mill. This can be accessed either by walking through the main doors and reception area of the building, or alternately from Southgate (the new road alongside Wigan Pier basin heading out of town town) - best way to describe its location is that it's sandwiched between the Edge Centre/Postcode Café and the main Mill building.

Again there is free parking alongside the courts, accessed down a narrow road (Pottery Terrace) which opens off Southgate immediately before the start of the Edge complex,
